The gambling expansion in Delaware has received a setback. The House has cancelled a bill that might have led to the establishment of a couple of new casinos in Delaware had it been passed. The supporters of the cancelled bill admit that it requires many more votes to become law.
When Governor Jack Markell spoke in favor of establishing 3 new casinos in Delaware, he was strongly opposed by the lawmakers of the state. Later, Pete Schwartzkopf suggested a bill that could introduce 2 new casinos in the state; but it was cancelled.
However, Schwartzkopf refuses to accept that the bill is finished. He believes that the bill will attract several supporters after the Easter holidays. He admits that he might have to modify the bill in order to obtain the support of those who oppose it at present.
Steve Schwartz, the gaming analyst, says that changing the minds of those who oppose gambling expansion is a very difficult task. Schwartzkopf’s bill might fail to get the required number of votes even if he modifies it, he explained.
Delaware has so far made rapid moves toward gambling expansion. The lawmakers of this state legalized betting on sports last year. Additional casinos are the need of the hour in the state at present.
Today, the leading state as far as gambling expansion is concerned is Pennsylvania, which is now concerned with legalizing table games at its casinos. Other states in favor of gambling expansion are New York, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
