Martingale Online Betting System

The Martingale betting system is perhaps the most well known betting scheme in the world. It has been applied to countless casino games, sports betting systems and wagering on other games of chance in an attempt to beat the house. Although the Martingale betting system has been proven many times to be ineffective, it has managed to survive for decades in one form or another regardless of the fact that it can't be used to win at online betting sites.

The basic idea behind the Martingale system is to place bets on an even money wager and double your bet every time you lose. The goal is to ensure you always lock in a win by raising the stakes if you lose. For example, you place a $5 bet on red and lose it, you will be $5 in the hole. On the next bet, you wager $10 and if you win, you are now up a little money. The thinking is that you have to win at some point, but betting limits will always make that impossible (don't ever think that oddsmakers are stupid, trust me they aren't).

Betting On Casino Games With The Martingale System

The Martingale online betting system is most often used for casino games. Any game in which there are two outcomes with roughly 50/50 odds can be used. Games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat all have bets in which you are basically flipping a coin. Many bettors have tried the Martingale system on these games over the years.

Using The Martingale System For Sports Betting

A slightly modified version of the Martingale betting system can also be used in sports betting. Because the payout odds are not even money in sports betting, the Martingale system has to be adjusted slightly to make up for the vigorish charged by sports betting websites.

The Martingale sports betting system is generally not a good idea for sports bets and casino game players. The problem is that the betting progression in stakes can quickly become too much for even the largest of bankrolls, but that likely won't make a difference because the betting limits at all gambling sites are quickly exceeded. An average losing streak can be amplified greatly when the Martingale system is in play.

Martingale Online Betting System Debunked

The problem with using the Martingale online betting system is two fold. First of all, the Martingale system doesn’t actually change the odds of the game. If the house has an advantage, the house will always have an advantage. There is nothing you can do to change your long term expectation because the rules of every casino game are fixed.

The second problem with the Martingale system is that the house always has betting limits. If you hit a moderate losing streak, you will reach the house limits surprisingly quickly. Not only is this system ineffective, but it can create catastrophic losses.

For example, let’s look at a bad run of 10 bets. We’ll start with a basic $10 bet and double it up ten times to see how quickly your bets grow in size - no betting site is going to let you make the type of progression needed to win betting with the Martingale system at betting sites online. Even if betting sites allowed bets that high compared to the minimum wager, the risk of ruin is so big and the reward so small it can never be worth it.

So starting with just a $10 bet, you can quickly find yourself placing $5,000+ bets. Just imagine how this chart looks if you start out with something like $50 or $100. Bad streaks are not that uncommon, by the way. Over the long run, you will hit them. The math always wins.  Learn about other sports betting systems for more information.
