The 2010 British Open Championship will soon be underway and all sports betting sites are now accepting bets. Those interested in wagering on this popular golf tournament can now do so. BetUs.com just made their odds public. Padraig Harrington has won the event two years in a row, thus this year he has been listed at +1400 (4/1) odds. Tiger woods odds have been set at +250. Individuals will be paid out $25 for every $10 they wager on the living but admittedly struggling gold legend. The odds for Rory Mcllroy, Phil Nickelson, Less Westwood and Ernie Els have all been listed as +1200. The remaining golfers’ odds are 25/1 or better.
This year’s British Open Championship will take place July 15th-18th. It will be held at the Old Course at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. St. Andrews is no stranger to the British Open. It has been played there 27 times, not including this year’s tournament. In this decade alone it was held there twice, in 2000 and 2005. Tiger Woods won both tournaments.
St. Andrews has a well respected golf-related history. It is considered by some to be golf’s home. To that end, every five years the British Open is slated to be played there. When the Open was played there in the year 2000, Tiger Woods won in record-setting fashion. He scored 19 under par. In 2005, there were some changes made to the course. The primary change was to the 17th hole. A new tee was added and the hole was extended by 40 yards.
The British Open event is using a par 72 course. The field is made up of 156 gentlemen. The purse is an impressive £4,800,000 with the winner taking home £850,000. All eyes will undoubtedly be on Tiger Woods as fans and foes alike wonder if he can play his way out of his current funk.
