Week 3 College Football Preview

The college football betting season is getting set to start up week 3. The season has started quick, and continues to showcase some excellent teams, and continue to provide fantastic matchups.

One of the week 3 games of the week features the Texas Longhorns visiting the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas has wins over Rice and Wyoming, and have scored 34 points in both games. The Longhorns defense is allowing just 12 points per game in the early going. Despite Colt McCoy heading to the NFL, the Longhorns have used Garrett Gilbert to lead the offense. Gilbert has thrown for just under 400 yards and a touchdown thus far. The Red Raiders also have two wins; over Southern Methodist and New Mexico. Texas Tech is scoring 43.5 points per game through the first two games. Taylor Potts, quarterback has completed 56 of 87 passes for 652 yards and 7 touchdowns thus far. Coming into the first portion of the week, the Longhorns are a slim 3 point favorite over the Red Raiders.

Another game that promises to be a good one is the Michigan State Spartans heading to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is coming off the home loss to the rival Michigan Wolverines. The Fighting Irish are averaging 293 passing yards per game, which ranks 20th in all of NCAA football. The Spartans are coming into this home affair with an unbeaten 2-0 mark. The Spartans have beat Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic. Kirk Cousins, the Michigan State quarterback has completed 22 of 38 passes on the season for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns. Michigan State, playing at home, holds a 3.5 point favorite marker on the game.

In a late game, the Iowa Hawkeyes head out west and take on the Arizona Wildcats. Iowa has two big wins, averaging 36 points, and allowing just 7 points. The Hawkeyes are rushing for over 220 yards per game, which is 25th in collegiate football. For Arizona, their 2-0 mark will be on the line as well. The Wildcats have been impressive, scoring 93 points in two games, while allowing just 8. The Hawkeyes, despite playing on the road, are a slight 1.5 point favorite in this game.

These games certainly aren’t the only weekend affairs. There are many other excellent battles in week three, but these appear to be the top games on the docket.
