As the action gets rolling in the National Football League, Monday will showcase some early season battles in the AFC. Two games will take place on the initial MNF of the season. At 7pm EST the Baltimore Ravens will roll into the Meadowlands and take on Rex Ryan and the New York Jets. Following that game, the San Diego Chargers will look to start their repeat as AFC West champions, as they head to Kansas City, to take on the Chiefs.
The New Meadowlands Stadium will be rocking for the first regular season Jets game when the Ravens come in. The Jets are coming off an appearance in the AFC title game last year, only to fall to the Colts.
Baltimore is once again expecting big things in an ubber tough AFC North division. The Ravens will turn to Joe Flacco once again behind center to lead the passing game. Ray Rice will look to improve upon a 2009 season that saw him run for over 1300 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Baltimore offense has been revamped from last season with the additions of receivers Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmanzadeh. Those two will team with Derrick Mason and Todd Heap to provide Flacco with plenty of viable options. As we know, the Baltimore defense will once again have the ability to get after the quarterback and shut down opponents.
New York, under Rex Ryan, who was a former assistant with the Ravens, comes in with plenty of talk, after being featured in the hit show “hard knocks”. Also, the Jets have been in the news after failing to sign Pro Bowl cornerback Derrelle Revis until the final week of training camp. Several coaches stated the show gave opponents a good idea of some of their sets they will run this season. Ryan downplayed those thoughts, and continues to state the show was a great idea for the team to gain exposure.
The Jets vs. Ravens odds have been set and one of our top books, Bodog, has the Jets listed at -1 favorites. This line opened at -2.5 so a lot of action has been coming in on the underdog Ravens. If that trend continues we look for the game odds to be close to a pickem by game time tomorrow night. Be sure to get your NFL bet in for tomorrow nights feature Monday Night Football betting. Also, remember books typically have some great live sports betting options available for MNF key games.
This has all the makings for a solid Monday Night Football game. If it’s not – week two featuring the Saints certainly will have football fans juices flowing!
