Woods Debut at Farmers Insurance Golf

The Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament will be played from Thursday January 27 to Sunday January 20. The venue is the Torrey Pines golf course in La Jolla California. The Farmers Insurance Open is the fourth event of the PGA 2011 tour. The third event, The Bob Hope Classic, just got over and was won by Jhonattan Vegas who overcame more seasoned professionals in the playoff.

For many golf fans and punters at betting sites it appears that the PGA tour is just beginning with the Farmers Insurance Open. This is because Tiger Woods will be playing in the PGA 2011 for the first time. A news item at the Farmers Insurance web site read, “Get ready, Torrey Pines: After a wait of 30 months, Tiger Woods is returning to the site of his epic 2008 U.S. Open win. It will be the first start for Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines since his U.S. Open win there in 2008. He missed the 2009 Farmers Insurance Open due to injury and in 2010 when he sat out the first three months of the season due to personal problems.”

Woods has six career victories in the Farmers Insurance Open, including a hat trick from 2006 to 2008. Phil Mickelson, a local professional golfer, won in 2000 and 2001. Mickelson, who is currently ranked fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking, will also be making his 2011 PGA debut on January 27.

Bodog.com is one of popular golf betting sites. It has opened a number of interesting markets for the Farmers Insurance Open. Woods and Mickelson are the favorites in the outright winner offer. Woods has been given odds of 11/4 and Mickelson is much longer at 14/1. Vegas, the winner of the Bob Hope Classic, is way back at 80/1.

Bodog.com offers bets for players from different regions to be the highest on the leader board. Robert Allenby is the favorite for the highest ranked Australasian player with odds of 7/2. Justin Rose is the favorite for the highest ranked European player with odds of 7/4. For the outright winner bet Allenby has odds of 40/1 and Rose has odds of 33/1. This shows the dominance of American golfers.
