Friday night, it took overtime and a 15 point fourth quarter rally to push the West Virginia Mountaineers over the Marshall Thundering Herd. Saturday was highlighted by the top two teams in the country beating other ranked opponents. The Alabama Crimson Tide kept the Penn State Nittany Lions out of the end zone all game, beating Joe Paterno’s squad 24-3. The number two teams in the country – The Ohio State University Buckeyes scored 23 points in the second quarter to beat the Miami Hurricanes 36-24.
Oklahoma gave the Florida State Seminoles new head coach Jimbo Fisher a rude awakening, as they put up 47 points and blasted them by 30 points.
A few upsets in week one action including James Madison downing Frank Beamer’s Virginia Tech Hokies 21-16. The Kansas Jay Hawks after their week one disappointment pulled off an upset, beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 28-25.
Other winners from within the Top 25 during week two action include Stanford over UCLA, South Carolina over Georgia, Utah over UNLV, LSU over Vanderbilt, USC over Virginia, Arkansas over Louisiana Monroe, Wisconsin over San Jose State, Iowa over Iowa State, Florida over South Florida, Oregon over Tennessee, Nebraska over Idaho, Texas over Wyoming and Texas Christian University over Tennessee Tech.
